Job Summary:
The Lighting Tech is responsible for the design, preparation, and implementation of large-scale live event lighting systems with a strong focus on client experience. This hands-on role operates both in the warehouse and on show sites, requiring technical expertise, leadership, and travel availability. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in lighting technology, committed to continuous improvement, and thrives in collaborative, fast-paced environments.
Responsibilities
Overall Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and improve current lighting production processes to ensure reliability and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with the Scenic Design Department to review and adjust lighting plots as Master Electrician.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date lighting and rigging designs using AutoCAD.
- Act as the lead lighting technician (L1) on-site, guiding crews through the implementation of lighting design.
- Research and recommend new lighting technologies to enhance production capabilities.
Warehouse Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the Lighting Department including equipment logistics, maintenance, subrentals, and job prep.
- Communicate clearly with event managers, engineers, and contract labor to align on-site responsibilities.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support overall production success.
Onsite Responsibilities:
- Execute client-approved lighting designs during live events with precision and professionalism.
- Lead on-site labor efforts from load-in through strike, ensuring all lighting gear is returned and accounted for.
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA standards.
Requirements
- Technical or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in the live event or lighting production industry.
- Proficiency in lighting control systems (Hog 4 experience is a plus).
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and lighting visualization programs (Capture is a plus).
- Ability to learn and use R2 Rental Software.
- ETCP Certification is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Positive, personable attitude with a focus on building strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Willingness to travel as needed for event execution.
